85% of Indian consumers trust AI, Tech Sentiment Index hits 74: Assurant report
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A significant 85 per cent of Indian consumers have expressed strong trust in artificial intelligence (AI) and optimism about its transformative potential, while 94 per cent said technology has meaningfully improved their lives, according to a report released on Tuesday, 30 June. The findings come from Assurant, Inc., a global provider of lifestyle and housing solutions, which also published India's score on its Technology Sentiment Index.
India's Technology Sentiment Index Score
India recorded a score of 74 on the Technology Sentiment Index, comfortably above the global average, reflecting strong consumer confidence in technology adoption and readiness for next-generation digital experiences. The report positions India as one of the most forward-looking connected consumer markets in the world.
Consumers are increasingly open to AI-enabled devices that enhance productivity, communication, and everyday convenience, the report noted. Growing expectations for 'seamless, always-on experiences' are shaping how smartphones, computers, and connected devices are being used — spanning work, entertainment, communication, and financial transactions.
What Industry Leaders Said
'Connected technology is becoming more central to everyday life globally, but what matters most now is how well these experiences adapt to individual needs — balancing innovation with simplicity, trust, and reliability,' said Federico Bunge, President, International at Assurant.
Bunge noted that this shift is occurring at remarkable speed in India, with digitally fluent consumers embracing AI-driven innovation and expecting experiences that fit effortlessly into everyday life.
Harini Kannan, Country Director at Assurant India, described India as 'one of the most dynamic and forward-looking connected consumer markets globally,' adding that brands have a significant opportunity to differentiate through protection and service experiences as consumers expect technology to 'work seamlessly in the background.'
The Role of Device Protection Plans
The report also highlighted the growing importance of device protection and support infrastructure. When issues such as connectivity disruptions or storage constraints arise, they can meaningfully disrupt daily life — reinforcing the value of reliable performance and accessible customer support.
Notably, 97 per cent of Indian consumers surveyed said customisable protection plans increase their likelihood of purchasing a device and enrolling in a protection programme. Protection plans are emerging as a key enabler of consumer confidence and a driver of brand value, the report found.
Why This Matters for India's Digital Economy
India's high Technology Sentiment Index score and near-universal positive sentiment toward AI reflect the country's accelerating digital transformation. With a large, young, and mobile-first population, India is increasingly seen as a bellwether for AI adoption trends across emerging markets. This comes amid rapid expansion of 5G networks, government-backed digital public infrastructure, and growing consumer familiarity with AI-powered tools in daily applications. The Assurant findings suggest that Indian consumers are not merely passive adopters — they are active enthusiasts who expect technology to be reliable, personalised, and seamlessly integrated into their lives.
