8.6 Million Participants Registered in the ‘IndiaAI Future Skills’ Program: IT Minister

New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) Approximately 8.6 million participants have joined the IndiaAI ‘Future Skills’ program launched by the government, which has been developed in partnership with industry stakeholders to provide training that aligns with the latest requirements, as stated by Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Wednesday.
Responding to a question in Parliament regarding the enrollment figures for the ‘Future Skills’ initiative, the minister underscored the government’s commitment to decentralizing technological resources, particularly by empowering tier 2 and 3 cities.
“AI Data Labs are being set up in cities such as Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Shimla, Aurangabad, Patna, Buxar, and Muzaffarpur,” the minister revealed.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to creating an environment where startups, AI labs, 5G labs, and semiconductor training facilities are accessible, ensuring that technological advancements are distributed throughout the country rather than being concentrated in a few locations.
The Union Minister also highlighted the transformative potential of AI across various sectors, including agriculture, education, healthcare, logistics, and finance, reaffirming India’s aspiration to take a global lead in responsible AI development.
“The most significant applications of AI will be found in sectors that directly affect people's lives. Agriculture, education, healthcare, logistics, and the financial sector are poised to gain substantially from AI solutions tailored to the country's needs,” Vaishnaw noted.
The ‘India Future Skills’ initiative aims to bolster India’s AI workforce readiness by reducing entry barriers to AI programs and enhancing the talent pipeline in the AI domain.
This initiative will expand AI course offerings at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD levels. Additionally, it aims to promote inclusive access to AI education by establishing Data and AI Labs in tier 2 and 3 cities across India to provide foundational courses.
Under the ‘IndiaAI Future Skills’ initiative, the IndiaAI fellowship is available to B.Tech and M.Tech students from engineering institutions recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Furthermore, MeitY has launched a program called “FutureSkills PRIME” in collaboration with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), aimed at re-skilling and up-skilling individuals in new and emerging technologies.
