New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) More than 9 crore individuals have completed their income tax return (ITR) submissions for the financial year 2025 (as of February 28), as per the latest statistics from the Income Tax Department.

Out of these, over 4 lakh taxpayers reported incomes exceeding Rs 1 crore.

The data indicates that approximately 3.89 lakh taxpayers declared earnings between Rs 1 crore and Rs 5 crore, while around 36,274 individuals disclosed incomes ranging from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore.

Moreover, 43,004 people revealed earnings surpassing Rs 10 crore. This results in a total of 4,68,658 high-income taxpayers (earning above Rs 1 crore).

These numbers are anticipated to rise as the deadline for filing income tax returns is March 31.

To date, over 9.11 crore individuals have completed their ITR submissions. The total count of registered taxpayers in India is 13.96 crore, indicating that nearly 65 percent of them have already filed their returns.

Additionally, about 8.56 crore tax returns have been e-verified, with refunds totaling Rs 3.92 lakh crore issued by the tax department.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of tax filings, with 1.38 crore returns submitted. Uttar Pradesh follows with 90.68 lakh returns, while Gujarat noted 87.90 lakh filings.

In Delhi, 44.45 lakh individuals filed their returns, while Andhra Pradesh and Punjab reported 30.76 lakh and 43.79 lakh filings respectively.

Among various ITR categories, ITR-1 filings grew by 0.11 percent, while ITR-2 experienced a notable increase of 33.89 percent.

ITR-3 filings rose by 15.50 percent, with ITR-5 and ITR-6 filings showing growth of 6.46 percent and 5.59 percent respectively, as stated by the Income Tax Department.

Earlier today, the department announced that direct tax collections have shown robust growth of 16.2 percent, reaching Rs 25.86 lakh crore during April 1, 2024 - March 16, 2025 for the current financial year (FY25), compared to the same timeframe in the previous fiscal year (FY24).
