On March 11, in Ahmedabad (NationPress), shares of Adani Total Gas experienced a remarkable increase of 20 percent, reaching the upper circuit threshold, even as India grapples with a significant natural gas supply shortage.

This substantial rise was prompted by the company’s announcement that domestic piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) for transportation have been prioritized for allocation according to a recent decree from the Indian Government.

During the trading session, the stock saw an exceptional volume of activity, with trading levels surging over 20 times the usual, resulting in approximately 16.44 million shares exchanged on both the National Stock Exchange of India and the BSE.

Adani Total Gas is engaged in city gas distribution, providing natural gas to various users, including residential, commercial, industrial, and automotive sectors.

In addition to Adani, other gas stocks experienced upward movement during intra-day trading, despite a broader market decline.

Gujarat Gas surged nearly 12 percent to Rs 420, ultimately closing 3.96 percent higher at Rs 390.

Other notable gas-related companies such as Petronet LNG, GAIL (India), Indraprastha Gas (IGL), and Mahanagar Gas (MGL) also saw gains, increasing up to 2 percent.

Beyond its primary business, Adani Total Gas is exploring new ventures in bio-gas, bio-fuel, biomass, liquefied compressed natural gas, hydrogen-enriched compressed natural gas, electric vehicles, and hydrogen-related industries.

In a recent regulatory filing, Adani Total Gas indicated that rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have caused some of its gas suppliers to limit supplies.

This situation has impacted the company's ability to provide gas to specific industrial clients.

The company expressed gratitude for the government's swift action in issuing the order and for prioritizing gas supplies for domestic PNG and CNG users, alongside those for industrial and commercial clients.

“The Company appreciates the Government’s prompt efforts in bringing out the said order and according priority for the gas supplies to Domestic PNG and CNG customers, as well as supply of PNG to Industrial and Commercial Customers,” it stated.

Point of View

The significant jump in Adani Total Gas shares reflects not only the company's resilience in a challenging market but also the government's decisive action in prioritizing gas supply to essential users. This situation is critical for ensuring energy security in India.
