Adani Ports Secures India's Largest Tug Order Worth Rs 450 Crore from Cochin Shipyard

Ahmedabad, Dec 27 (NationPress) Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has announced its decision to procure eight cutting-edge harbour tugs, with a total contract value projected at Rs 450 crore, which will be manufactured by Cochin Shipyard Ltd.
The delivery of these tugs is anticipated between December 2026 and May 2028, which will significantly enhance the efficiency and safety of vessel operations across Indian ports, as stated by the flagship company of the Adani Group.
With the addition of these eight tugs, each capable of a 70-tonne bollard pull, the total fleet of Adani Ports will expand to 152.
“This partnership with Cochin Shipyard Ltd highlights our dedication to advancing maritime infrastructure in India and showcases our faith in our nation's public sector undertakings,” commented Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ.
“By utilizing local manufacturing capabilities, which are of world-class quality, we aim to support the ‘Make in India’ initiative while ensuring our operations adhere to international standards of safety and efficiency,” Gupta added.
Previously, APSEZ had contracted the construction of two 62-tonne bollard pull ASD (Azimuthing Stern Drive) tugs with Cochin Shipyard Ltd for Ocean Sparkle Ltd, both of which were delivered ahead of schedule and are now operational at Paradeep Port and New Mangalore Port.
Three more ASD tugs are currently under construction, bringing the total order to 13 tugs, aimed at providing a more modern fleet for efficient and reliable services in the port sector, according to the company.

Adani Ports stands as the largest port developer and operator in India, managing seven strategically positioned ports and terminals on the west coast and eight on the east coast, accounting for 27 percent of the nation's total port volumes.
The company is also in the process of developing a transshipment port in Colombo and operates the Haifa Port in Israel and Container Terminal 2 at Dar Es Salaam Port in Tanzania.
