Adani Ports Reports 8% Increase in Cargo Volume for December

Ahmedabad, Jan 3 (NationPress) The total cargo volume of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) has surged by 8 percent (on a year-on-year basis) to reach 38.4 million metric tonnes (MMT) in December 2024.
The growth in the company’s container volume was remarkable, showing an increase of 22 percent, while its liquids and gas segments saw a growth of 7 percent year-on-year last month. APSEZ stands as the largest private port operator in the nation.
In November, Adani Ports managed a total of 36 million metric tonnes of cargo, primarily driven by elevated container volumes.
On a month-on-month comparison, the total cargo volume experienced a growth of 6.6 percent.
Recently, Adani Ports placed a substantial order for eight cutting-edge harbour tugs from Cochin Shipyard, with an estimated contract value of Rs 450 crore.
This order represents the largest under the ‘Make in India’ initiative to date.
The tugs are anticipated to be delivered from December 2026 through May 2028, significantly enhancing the efficiency and safety of vessel operations at Indian ports.
Ashwani Gupta, the Chief Executive Officer and Whole-time Director of Adani Ports, stated that the company aims to support the ‘Make in India’ initiative by capitalizing on world-class local manufacturing.
“We have also ensured that the safety and efficiency of our operations are aligned with international standards,” he added.
Previously, Adani Ports had ordered two 62-tonne tugs from Cochin Shipyard, which were delivered ahead of schedule and are currently operational at Paradip Port and New Mangalore Port.
In late December, Vizhinjam Port, operated by the Adani Group, celebrated the arrival of its 100th commercial ship, the 'MSC Michela'.
This milestone was reached by Vizhinjam Port within just six months of commencing operations.
Developed by APSEZ in collaboration with the Kerala government, Vizhinjam Port is the first transshipment port in India, situated near Kovalam Beach in Kerala.
