Acquisition of 8 Harbour Tugs Strengthens Our Dedication to Self-Sufficiency: Karan Adani

New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) Karan Adani, the Managing Director of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), declared on Friday that the acquisition of eight advanced harbour tugs, with a total contract value estimated at Rs 450 crore, emphasizes their commitment to self-sufficiency.

In a post on X, Karan Adani mentioned that the company has made India's largest-ever order for harbour tugs with Cochin Shipyard Ltd.

"The eight advanced tugs valued at Rs 450 crore will enhance our fleet to 152. This record order reinforces our dedication to self-reliance while maintaining international safety and efficiency standards in the maritime sector. #MakeInIndia," Karan Adani shared.

As per the company, these tugs are anticipated to be delivered from December 2026 to May 2028, significantly enhancing the efficiency and safety of vessel operations in Indian ports.

Previously, APSEZ had contracted the construction of two 62-tonne bollard pull ASD (Azimuthing Stern Drive) tugs from Cochin Shipyard Ltd for Ocean Sparkle Ltd, both of which were delivered ahead of schedule and deployed at Paradeep Port and New Mangalore Port.

The construction of three additional ASD tugs is currently in progress, bringing the total order to 13 tugs, aimed at establishing a younger fleet for efficient and reliable services in the port sector, the company stated.

"This initiative highlights the significance of sustainable practices in shipbuilding and underscores the strategic importance of the maritime industry in India's economic development," noted India’s largest integrated transport utility company.

Adani Ports is recognized as the largest port developer and operator in India, with seven strategically located ports and terminals on the west coast and eight on the east coast, accounting for 27 percent of the country's total port volumes.
