How is Adani’s Project Utthan Transforming Education for 1.5 Lakh Children in Mumbai?

Mumbai, Aug 5 (NationPress) In a remarkable initiative aimed at enhancing foundational education, the Adani Foundation and Adani Electricity have entered into a Letter of Agreement with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for Project Utthan.

This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program is set to bolster Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills for 1.5 lakh students across 947 municipal schools in the city, showcasing a significant commitment to enhancing the quality of early education in Mumbai.

Since its inception in 2021, Project Utthan has been effectively implemented through a public-private partnership between BMC, Adani Foundation, and Adani Electricity, focusing on educational improvement.

The project has made remarkable progress in transforming foundational learning within 83 BMC schools located in Malad, Dahisar, Borivali, Chembur, and Kurla, benefiting over 25,000 students directly.

Notably, the initiative has demonstrated significant improvements in learning outcomes, student engagement, and the establishment of more joyful, inclusive classrooms.

Moreover, it aligns with the central government’s NIPUN Bharat Mission and reflects the core tenets of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Beyond mere academic achievements, Project Utthan seeks to fundamentally reshape Mumbai’s public education system by fostering robust foundational learning environments.

This initiative is strategically crafted to enhance the city’s performance in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2027-28, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that no child is overlooked in acquiring essential literacy and numeracy skills.

Building on its prior successes, the project is set for expansion from academic years 2025-26 to 2027-28, targeting Grades 1 to 4 across 947 municipal schools and reaching over 1.5 lakh students, making it one of the largest initiatives of its kind in India.

The focus will remain on strengthening Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), a vital component of a child’s educational journey.

To facilitate this, 316 trained female “Utthan Sahayaks” will be appointed in schools. These Sahayaks will collaborate closely with teachers to assist students who are irregular, disengaged, or facing academic challenges.

The initiative will also incorporate student-centered learning approaches and practice materials for Grade 10 students to enhance their academic performance.

Adani Electricity and Adani Foundation are fully funding the implementation of this project, while the BMC’s Education Department will provide essential logistical and infrastructural support.
