New Delhi, Nov 23 (NationPress) Following allegations from Samajwadi Party head Akhilesh Yadav regarding the BJP and Election Commission of India purportedly “misusing” the current Special Intensive Revision process, Keshav Prasad Maurya, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, responded on Sunday, suggesting that Yadav's statements reveal a sense of “nervousness” due to his party's lack of “genuine ground presence.”
Deputy CM Maurya remarked, “After the NDA's victory in Bihar, Akhilesh Yadav asserted he would triumph in Awadh and outpace us in Magadh. However, we emerged victorious in Magadh and are confident of winning Awadh in 2027, regardless of their skepticism towards the results.”
BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain also criticized the SP chief, stating, “Ever since suffering defeat in Bihar, Akhilesh Yadav and his party have been making excuses. They are aware that the Samajwadi Party will not perform well in Uttar Pradesh, and thus, they are preemptively crafting narratives. The same excuses were previously made by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav during the SIR, and Yadav seems to be emulating their tactics.”
Both leaders emphasized that the BJP has no need to meddle in electoral processes, arguing that the SP chief is attempting to “mislead voters” ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Yadav vehemently criticized the BJP and the Election Commission, accusing them of “misusing” the SIR concerning electoral rolls.
He asserted that the BJP is collaborating with the EC to “cancel” over 50,000 votes in Assembly segments where parties from the INDIA bloc performed strongly in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Yadav cautioned that the SIR process is being executed in a “targeted manner” in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, alleging political motivations behind the voter verification initiative.
The Election Commission is presently conducting the SIR across 12 states and Union Territories, with the final electoral roll set to be published on February 7, 2026.
