AIIMS Delhi Allocating Over Rs 300 Crore for Digital Infrastructure and AI Development: Director

New Delhi, December 30 (NationPress) With the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) transforming healthcare, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), located in New Delhi, is committing over Rs 300 crore towards the enhancement of its digital infrastructure, announced Director Dr. M. Srinivas.
During a meeting convened in the national capital, he discussed the revolutionary potential of AI in enhancing health awareness and empowering patient education.
Industry leaders in the realms of healthcare, technology, and policy shared their perspectives on how AI is set to address critical deficiencies in health communication, thereby making information more accessible, reliable, and patient-centered.
“AI is transforming various facets from patient care to health communication,” remarked Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS.
“We are allocating over Rs 300 crore for digital infrastructure to ensure that every stakeholder—patients, doctors, and researchers—reaps the benefits of this innovation. By harnessing AI, we can enhance efficiency, minimize delays, and facilitate world-class research,” he further elaborated.
Experts at AIIMS also highlighted the necessity of combating misinformation by providing accurate, easily comprehensible, and personalized healthcare information through AI to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Srinivas emphasized that utilizing AI to simplify and spread health information will empower patients and boost their engagement with healthcare systems, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes.
“An effective health system isn’t dependent solely on individuals. AI can significantly enhance the accuracy, compassion, and equity of healthcare,” stated Dr. Kavita Narayan, Senior Technical Advisor, HRH for Health Systems at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
“To truly enact change, we need to integrate technology judiciously and foster collaboration among policymakers, technologists, and healthcare providers,” she added.
Experts also warned against excessive reliance on technology at the cost of human connection.
K.P. Kochhar, Professor and Head of the Physiology Department at AIIMS, underscored the importance of harmonizing innovation with empathy in healthcare.
“While AI can improve precision and efficiency, it is crucial to maintain the human touch in healthcare. Compassion and technology should work in concert to build systems that prioritize patient well-being,” Kochhar stated.
