New Delhi, Aug 31 (NationPress) An Air India flight traveling from Delhi to Indore made an unexpected return to the national capital on Sunday morning following a fire alert in one of the aircraft's engines. The A320 neo aircraft, designated as flight AI2913, touched down safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport around 6:15 am with more than 90 passengers aboard.

According to a statement from Air India, the cockpit crew detected a fire indication in the right engine shortly after takeoff.

In adherence to standard safety protocols, the crew deactivated the malfunctioning engine and navigated the aircraft back to Delhi. The airline confirmed that all passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

"Flight AI2913, which was en route from Delhi to Indore on August 31, returned to Delhi shortly after takeoff due to a fire indication for the right engine. Following established procedures, the cockpit crew opted to shut down the engine and safely landed back in Delhi," stated the airline owned by Tata Group.

The aircraft has been grounded for a thorough inspection, while passengers are being transferred to an alternate aircraft to continue their journey to Indore.

"The aircraft is currently grounded for inspection, and passengers will be moved to another plane which will operate the flight to Indore shortly," the airline added.

“The relevant regulatory authority has been informed about the situation. We apologize for the inconvenience experienced by our passengers. Air India prioritizes the safety of its passengers and crew above all else,” remarked an airline spokesperson.

Reports indicate that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified regarding this incident.
