New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) Artificial Intelligence is poised to dramatically alter the job landscape in the near future; however, it also opens vast avenues for expansion and employment, according to Hari Shetty, Chief Strategist and Technology Officer at Wipro Limited, during a recent discussion.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Shetty characterized AI as a pioneering technological revolution of our era.
He likened the current surge in AI to monumental advancements such as the discovery of electricity, the steam engine, and the recent internet boom.
“AI stands as one of the most significant technology opportunities we have encountered. It is a major technological evolution and a multi-faceted opportunity,” Shetty conveyed to IANS.
“AI signifies a profound and multi-dimensional evolution that will transform industries and economies across the globe,” he further stated.
Referencing a recent analysis from the World Economic Forum, Shetty noted that AI is projected to generate approximately 170 million jobs worldwide, while simultaneously disrupting nearly 92 million roles.
“Even with the disruptions, the overall effect remains favorable, with over 70 million new jobs expected to be created,” he clarified.
He acknowledged the inevitable changes in job nature. “There will undoubtedly be a shift in job types,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for both companies and individuals to adapt to evolving skill sets. Nevertheless, he asserted that the overall future outlook remains very optimistic.
“Wipro is proactively equipping its workforce for this shift. The organization has launched extensive AI literacy initiatives and is training all employees in AI-related competencies,” Shetty mentioned.
“In addition to internal efforts, Wipro is collaborating with seven Indian states to establish Centres of Excellence in AI and data sciences. Approximately 60,000 students are currently benefiting from these initiatives,” he informed IANS.
“The future sculpted by AI should not be perceived as a threat, but rather as a realm of opportunities waiting to be explored,” he concluded.
