New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) Apple has established a new milestone in smartphone manufacturing within India, recording its most rapid growth in iPhone production and exports during the first half of 2025, as reported by the government on Thursday.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) celebrated this achievement on social media platform X, stating, “Apple reaps record iPhone production from its India orchard,” emphasizing the nation’s expanding significance in global tech manufacturing.

Data from market research firm Canalys indicates that iPhone production in India surged by 53 percent year-on-year (YoY) from January to June 2025, totaling 23.9 million units.

This marks Apple’s most significant production increase since it began assembling smartphones in India in 2017.

The growth is perceived as part of Apple’s strategy to lessen its dependency on China, particularly in light of potential higher US tariffs on Chinese products.

Exports mirrored this growth trend, also increasing by 53 percent compared to the same timeframe in the previous year, according to the report.

The United States emerged as the primary destination for iPhones manufactured in India, receiving 78 percent of all exports—up from 53 percent a year prior.

Meanwhile, other markets such as the Netherlands, UAE, UK, and Japan experienced a decline in their share of Indian iPhone shipments.

Leading the manufacturing effort, Foxconn contributed over half of the iPhones exported, as per the report.

The Tata Group has also solidified its position as a key player, now responsible for nearly 40 percent of Apple’s iPhone exports from India.

Analysts suggest this indicates improved manufacturing output and growing trust from Apple in India’s capabilities.

“This could represent Apple’s earliest flagship production ramp-up from India,” remarked Sanyam Chaurasia, Principal Analyst at Canalys Omdia.

He mentioned that if India can align with China’s production schedules, it would signify a new chapter in Apple’s global supply chain strategy.

This growth is significantly supported by the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for electronics, which provides financial incentives to manufacturers for increasing local production.

The development also serves as a significant boost to the Make in India initiative, which aims to position the country as a global manufacturing hub.
