New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) The Ministry of Heavy Industries has commenced the development of the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047) with the goal of boosting innovation, enhancing global competitiveness, and promoting sustainable development to position India as a leading global automotive powerhouse by the year 2047, as detailed in an official statement released on Thursday.
This initiative serves as a strategic roadmap that aligns with the 'Viksit Bharat @2047' vision, building upon the successes of prior Automotive Mission Plans that have driven substantial growth in India's automotive sector through effective stakeholder collaboration, the statement noted.
The first meeting of the AMP 2047 Sub-Committees took place here to delineate the objectives and framework.
Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, remarked, "The vision for 2047 is not merely a dream but a strategic roadmap supported by specific targets for growth within the sector, export enhancement, and industry advancement. We need to look beyond individual technologies or companies and concentrate on India's global position in 2047, aiming to increase our share in international automotive trade through innovation and quality."
Delegates from various ministries, including the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, DPIIT, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, as well as industry bodies like SIAM, ACMA, CII, FICCI, academic institutions, research think tanks, and testing agencies, participated in the meeting to kickstart an industry-led initiative to shape AMP 2047.
The initiative aims to consolidate the shared vision of stakeholders, including Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), auto component producers, policymakers, academia, and end-users, to tackle challenges such as technological advancements and charging infrastructure. Seven Sub-Committees, featuring experts from the government, industry, and academia, will steer the creation of a thorough plan targeting key milestones for 2030, 2037, and 2047.
The Ministry, under the leadership of Minister for Heavy Industries H. D. Kumaraswamy, emphasizes its dedication to establishing a self-reliant, innovative, and sustainable automotive ecosystem. Several Sub-Committee meetings will gather ideas and data for presentation to the Apex Committee, led by Kamran Rizvi, Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, the statement concluded.
