Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday, 29 August announced a comprehensive post-Maoist development agenda for Balaghat district, sanctioning ₹225 crore for basic infrastructure across 100 extremely backward villages and calling on the Opposition to join hands in rebuilding the region. The announcement came during a press conference following his attendance at the 'Jan-Vishwas Abhiyan' event in Lanji town of Balaghat.

The sanctioned ₹225 crore will be deployed across roads, electricity, water supply, education, and healthcare in the district's most underserved villages. The state government also plans to establish hospitals, upgrade government schools, and build community centres in these areas. Chief Minister Yadav said the administration is now reaching localities that remained inaccessible for years due to Naxal activity, and will organise camps to ensure residents receive welfare scheme benefits.

All-Party Development Framework

CM Yadav emphasised that rebuilding a region scarred by decades of Naxalism required political consensus beyond party lines. 'We have formulated a development plan for the Balaghat and Lanji areas by involving elected MLAs from the Opposition as well as other public representatives. In the future, we will continue to work for the region's development by taking the Leader of the Opposition and all political parties along. We are striving to make Balaghat the number one district,' he said.

Baiga Tribal Community in Focus

A significant announcement was the establishment of a Baiga Development Authority, aimed at the education, healthcare, employment, and socio-economic uplift of the Baiga community — classified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). Cooperative societies are being set up and self-help groups are being linked to livelihood and nutritional initiatives, reflecting a structured approach to tribal welfare in the post-conflict zone.

Economic Revival and Tourism Potential

The state government plans to promote animal husbandry, dairy farming, and agriculture-based industries to generate local employment. Chief Minister Yadav highlighted Balaghat's significant potential for eco-tourism and tribal tourism, particularly around Kanha National Park, and announced plans to scale up homestays in the region. Local produce will be value-added within the district before being dispatched to major cities — a model intended to retain economic gains locally.

Balaghat's Naxal-Free Milestone

Chief Minister Yadav credited the elimination of Naxalism in the district to efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 'Balaghat was the first district in the entire country to bid a final farewell to Naxalism,' he stated. The administration's stated goal is now to convert this security achievement into measurable economic progress. 'The goal is to bring the light of development to every village freed from the Maoist menace, ensuring prosperity for every family and dignity for every community,' Yadav added. With infrastructure investment committed and an all-party framework proposed, the district's transformation from conflict zone to growth hub will be closely watched.
