Assocham Names Industry Leader Manish Singhal as New Secretary General

New Delhi, Jan 1 (NationPress) The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) announced on Wednesday the appointment of Manish Singhal, a seasoned industry expert, as Secretary General.
Singhal takes over from Deepak Sood, who led the chamber for five successful years before stepping down to explore other ventures, as stated by the apex chamber.
Previously, Singhal served as Deputy Secretary General at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
He has also been associated with several multinational corporations, including Tata Motors, Eicher (Volvo), Tata Auto Comp Systems, Moser Baer India, and BEML, among others.
“We express our gratitude to Sood for his significant contributions in revitalizing the Chamber, which now enjoys a robust balance sheet and provides exceptional services,” remarked Sanjay Nayar, President of Assocham.
Nayar extended a warm welcome to Singhal, stating, “He possesses a commendable history in policy advocacy and international business, which will aid the Chamber in achieving new milestones,” according to the chamber's president.
Assocham, established in 1920, is India’s oldest apex chamber. The organization focuses on actionable policy advocacy to enhance the Indian economic landscape by utilizing its network of over 450,000 members, which includes both large corporations and MSMEs.
In a recent pre-budget meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the chamber advocated for various measures to boost investment, such as broadening the scope of presumptive taxation for MSMEs and emerging businesses like data centers, data hosting, and cloud computing.
Nayar noted that these measures would simplify compliance for taxpayers by determining income on a pre-defined basis, thus alleviating concerns regarding tax disputes and litigation.
Additionally, Nayar emphasized the necessity of establishing MSME universities to foster skill development and entrepreneurship training, as well as to stimulate growth within the sector. He also pointed out the importance of developing Integrated Infrastructure Townships for MSMEs, a modernized version of the previous Industrial Estate Development Program, across the nation.
