New Delhi, Jan 7 (NationPress) British Columbia (BC) is set to dispatch a trade delegation to India for a five-day initiative commencing January 12, aimed at enhancing local enterprises and exploring new market opportunities, as stated by the province's Premier, David Eby.
This trade mission will feature BC's Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth, Ravi Kahlon, and officials are scheduled to engage with government and business leaders in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Bengaluru, according to reports from CBC News.
During a press conference in Vancouver, the Premier emphasized that this trip seeks to create prospects for Canadian businesses, particularly those in the forestry sector, which has faced significant challenges due to tariffs imposed by former US President Donald Trump.
The mission intends to strengthen ties as India is on the verge of becoming the world's third-largest economy and to diversify trade amidst political uncertainty and global tensions. The delegation will also promote clean energy, mining, and technology firms, as reported by CBC News.
BC is recognized as India's largest trade partner in Canada, with bilateral trade reaching $2.1 billion in 2024, accounting for about 25 percent of Canada’s exports to India, as per Kahlon.
The minister noted that BC hosts 12,000 tech companies and boasts the fastest growing life sciences sector in the nation.
David Eby pointed out that a recent trade mission to Asia resulted in significant projects, including LNG Phase 2, which is anticipated to reach a final investment decision this year.
Currently, India is engaged in talks regarding fair and balanced trade agreements with 14 nations or groups that represent nearly 50 countries, including the United States, the European Union, GCC nations, New Zealand, Israel, Eurasia, Canada, South Africa, and the Mercosur group.
Initiatives like the National Manufacturing Mission and the Rs 25,000 crore Export Promotion Mission are facilitating India’s ascent towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy.
Premier Eby also welcomed the recent changes in Venezuela following the end of Nicolas Maduro's regime.
