Can Navi Mumbai Voters Challenge the Established Leadership?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Navi Mumbai, Jan 8 (NationPress) In an electrifying campaign for the forthcoming Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde implored voters to dismantle what he termed the monopoly of "dynastic and entrenched leadership" by casting their votes for the 'Bow and Arrow' symbol on January 15.
During a vibrant roadshow and multiple public rallies throughout the city, Shinde called upon residents to back candidates from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
The Shiv Sena and the BJP are independently participating in the civic elections, and Shinde's statements were perceived as specifically aimed at BJP leader and Minister Ganesh Naik.
Shinde received a warm reception during the roadshow, with women beneficiaries from the Ladki Bahin scheme, along with youth and senior citizens, welcoming him with flower petals and traditional aukshan rituals.
Describing the civic elections as a battle between “development versus rhetoric” and “public servants versus landlords”, Shinde urged voters to guarantee a resounding victory for Shiv Sena candidates. “Press the ‘Bow and Arrow’ button on the 15th and raise the saffron flag of Shiv Sena over the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation,” he stated.
Taking a pointed jab at his political opponents, Shinde remarked: “Some individuals see themselves as masters and treat the public as slaves. We view ourselves as servants and the people as our masters. In 2022, the nation witnessed the consequences of challenging the people's will.”
Shinde highlighted the uneven development in the city, pointing out the disparity between major roads and inner residential areas.
“Beyond the main highways, there is neglect. The internal roads resemble those of underdeveloped villages. They have ruled for decades without delivering development, and now they are making promises again. Do not fall for these false assurances,” he warned.
Assuring residents that unresolved issues regarding housing, urban redevelopment, and essential civic amenities such as hospitals, gardens, and roads would be prioritized through the Urban Development Department, he emphasized that there would be no lack of funds for Navi Mumbai's comprehensive development.
Expressing optimism, Shinde stated that the “miracle” seen during the Assembly elections would be replicated in the Municipal Corporation polls. He added that this would ensure the ongoing implementation of welfare initiatives like the Ladki Bahin scheme and accelerate the overall transformation of the city.
The campaign gained additional momentum as several office-bearers from the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction, including Keshav Nalawade, Sunil Ghule, Bharat More, and youth leader Rohit Nalawade, officially joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena during the campaign.
