Key Takeaways
Thane, Jan 16 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde announced on Friday that the Shiv Sena-BJP Mahayuti alliance is poised to achieve a majority in the ongoing municipal elections in the state.
During a press briefing, Shinde expressed unwavering confidence that Mahayuti mayors will be appointed in numerous municipal corporations throughout Maharashtra, notably including the illustrious Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Shinde pointed out that the alliance has made substantial progress in areas such as Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, and the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). He confirmed that the Shiv Sena has secured a decisive majority in Thane, while the Mahayuti is very close to achieving the critical figure in Mumbai.
"The Mahayuti will undoubtedly have its Mayor in Mumbai. We are mere inches away from a complete majority and will govern in various regions of the state," stated Shinde.
In a jab at the opposition, the Deputy CM noted that despite efforts to utilize emotional appeals and corruption claims in their campaigns, voters have prioritized development.
"Mumbaikars and voters statewide have opted for growth over emotional politics. Those who resisted progress have been rejected. The public has embraced 'Development' as the sole genuine agenda," asserted Shinde.
He remarked that while the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) faction contested over 150 seats and secured roughly 60, the overarching mandate remains firmly aligned with the Mahayuti’s development vision.
Shinde stressed that a 'Triple Engine' government—led by PM Narendra Modi at the national level, CM Devendra Fadnavis in the state, and Mahayuti in the BMC—will greatly benefit Mumbai. He unveiled special plans aimed at ensuring Mumbai plays a significant role in India's aspiration to reach a $5 trillion economy, aspiring to transform it into a premier international city.
He announced that major roads in Mumbai will be concretized by May next year to guarantee a pothole-free environment. Seven new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) are under construction to make Mumbai pollution-free. Progress is also being made rapidly on Metro lines 2 and 3, along with plans for introducing Pod Taxis as a new mode of transportation.
Infrastructure projects like the Thane-Saket-Gaimukh-Frontran route, Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, and the Borivali Tunnel are poised to alleviate congestion in the city.
Shinde reiterated that the alliance is committed to improvements in healthcare, sanitation, and redevelopment. He emphasized the enhancement of the 'Balasaheb Thackeray Aapla Dawakhana' clinics and the expedited redevelopment of dilapidated structures and slums.
"Our aim transcends merely securing the Mayor's position; it's about transforming the lives of Mumbaikars. We aspire for those who left Mumbai to have the option to return," he stated. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to the "Ladki Bahin" (beloved sisters) for their substantial contributions to the election outcomes.
