New Delhi, Sep 18 (NationPress) The Department of Posts and the state-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have entered into a one-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) to utilize post offices for the sale of BSNL SIM cards and mobile recharge services.
This agreement is designed to close the digital gap in both urban and rural areas, as stated by an official announcement.
With India Post's 165,000 post offices functioning as sales outlets for BSNL prepaid SIM cards and top-up services, BSNL will supply the necessary SIM stock and training. Meanwhile, the Department of Posts will facilitate the onboarding of new customers and secure transactions, as per government information.
A successful proof of concept was conducted in Assam, demonstrating both operational readiness and setting the groundwork for a nationwide implementation, the statement elaborated.
This initiative intends to enhance the accessibility and affordability of BSNL's telecom services, particularly benefiting residents in the most remote regions of the country, who often face connectivity challenges.
