Will C-DOT and Synergy Quantum Create a Tool to Identify Quantum-Vulnerable Cryptography?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 14 (NationPress) The Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) research and development entity, Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), has entered into a partnership with Synergy Quantum India Private Limited to collaboratively develop an automated tool designed to identify, categorize, and report quantum-vulnerable cryptographic algorithms in targeted devices, as announced by the government on Saturday.
The purpose of this agreement is to create an automated tool capable of scanning devices, pinpointing their cryptographic algorithms, and examining security mechanisms. The tool will flag potential security risks, differentiating between quantum-safe and quantum-vulnerable algorithms, according to an official release.
Ultimately, it will produce a thorough report that details quantum-vulnerable algorithms, their functionalities, and their precise locations within the device to facilitate informed migration planning towards quantum-safe security, the statement elaborated.
Synergy Quantum India Private Limited is a pioneering deep-tech company focused on sovereign quantum security, offering extensive post-quantum cryptography solutions that span both hardware and software.
The upcoming tool, developed through this collaboration, will consist of three primary modules: a web application for external black-box scanning and network traffic analysis, vulnerability assessment focusing on quantum risks, and a security scanner agent for auditing libraries.
Additionally, it features control software that manages agent installation or uninstallation, performs scans, and compiles data into unified reports highlighting all vulnerabilities, as stated by the Ministry of Communications.
This partnership is anticipated to yield a fully integrated solution ready for commercial deployment, fundamentally transforming how organizations evaluate their cryptographic preparedness for the quantum era.
“This innovative initiative will facilitate the early identification of cryptographic vulnerabilities across various sectors, including defense, telecommunications, banking, and other governmental domains, enabling proactive transitions to post-quantum cryptography,” the statement indicated.
The collaboration with Synergy Quantum supports the national vision to bolster indigenous research and innovation under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and to enhance India's capacity in emerging and secure telecommunications technologies, according to the ministry.
“With the advancement of quantum computing, conventional cryptographic frameworks encounter unprecedented challenges,” said Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT.
By merging C-DOT's telecom and quantum research expertise with Synergy Quantum's capabilities, this partnership aims to develop tools that meet both current and future cybersecurity requirements, he added.
