New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) In a significant enhancement to India's military capabilities, the Defence Procurement Board (DPB) has granted approval for the acquisition of 114 Rafale fighter jets from the French company Dassault Aviation.
As per defence insiders, this proposal will be reviewed for clearance at the forthcoming Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), which is led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Sources also indicate that the Cabinet Committee on Security, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is expected to provide the final nod.
In the previous year, the Indian Air Force had submitted a formal request to the Ministry of Defence for an additional 114 Rafale fighter jets.
Reports suggest that India and France may finalize the agreement for these fighter jets as early as next month.
Last April, India entered into a historic deal worth Rs 63,000 crore with France for the purchase of 26 Rafale-Marine fighter jets, augmenting the capabilities of the Indian Navy.

Tata Advanced Systems will establish a state-of-the-art production facility in Hyderabad dedicated to manufacturing key structural components of the Rafale, including the lateral shells of the rear fuselage, the entire rear section, the central fuselage, and the front section.
