New Delhi, Sep 29 (NationPress) Electronics manufacturing in India is witnessing rapid growth, with fresh suppliers and enhanced design capabilities emerging weekly, stated Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Monday.

He emphasized that this sector, primarily supported by small and medium enterprises, is poised to become one of the largest employment generators in India in the near future.

“The electronics manufacturing ecosystem is expanding. New suppliers, primarily small and medium enterprises, are emerging weekly,” Vaishnaw remarked.

In a post shared on X, he highlighted that innovative designs and advanced manufacturing processes are being continuously developed, enhancing India’s competitive edge in the electronics sector.

“Design capabilities are on the rise. New designs and manufacturing processes are being introduced,” the Union Minister asserted.

“In the coming years, electronics manufacturing will become one of the major employment sectors in Bharat,” he added.

These remarks come as India transitions from being merely an assembly hub to establishing advanced design and chip-making capabilities.

Earlier this month, Vaishnaw inaugurated ARM’s new semiconductor design facility in Bengaluru, which aims to develop 2-nanometre chip technology—a pivotal advancement in India’s semiconductor journey.

The government has announced that India is designing a 2 nm chip for the first time.

This technology is vital for next-generation devices in areas such as artificial intelligence, mobile computing, and high-performance systems.

Smaller transistors not only enhance efficiency and lower power consumption but also hold significant strategic importance for national security, space exploration, and defense applications.

The India Semiconductor Mission, with an investment of Rs 76,000 crore, is spearheading the development of a robust ecosystem.

So far, 10 projects valued at Rs 1.6 lakh crore have received approval across six states. Furthermore, domestic startups under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme have advanced 23 chip design projects, while 72 enterprises are utilizing cutting-edge design tools.

Point of View

The expansion of electronics manufacturing in India signifies a crucial shift towards self-reliance and innovation.
