New Delhi, Aug 13 (NationPress) Tech giant Apple has rejected any accusations of unfair practices, asserting that its platform is "impartial and unbiased" after Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, claimed that Apple's App Store rankings favor ChatGPT over his applications.
Musk alleged that OpenAI's ChatGPT secures the top position due to Apple’s unjust preference, while his apps, X and xAI's Grok, are being neglected.
Apple firmly denied the claims that its App Store algorithms or curated lists favor ChatGPT over Musk’s products. The company stated, "The App Store is designed to be fair and free of bias," emphasizing that recommendations are based on charts, algorithms, and expert editorial curation with objective criteria, according to various media outlets.
“Our aim is to provide a safe discovery experience for users and valuable opportunities for developers, collaborating with many to enhance app visibility in swiftly changing categories,” the company’s statement elaborated.
Musk criticized Apple on X, claiming it makes it “impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1.”
He asserted that although X topped the News chart and Grok underwent significant updates, making Grok 4 available for free to all users, his chatbot only managed to reach fifth overall and second in the Productivity category.
Meanwhile, ChatGPT has maintained a stronghold on the top position in the App Store. Musk contended that Apple’s support for ChatGPT is not a result of organic popularity. Apple has featured ChatGPT in App Store editorial content and has integrated OpenAI’s technology into its Apple Intelligence rollout, directly embedding it into Siri and writing tools.
Musk threatened “immediate legal action” regarding this issue, although no lawsuit has been filed as of yet.
Apple finds itself in a difficult position as it navigates a significant antitrust case brought by the US Department of Justice. The company is currently appealing a ruling from an ongoing legal battle with Epic Games, which mandated certain changes to App Store regulations.
Recently, on the eve of GPT-5’s launch, ChatGPT's creator, OpenAI, announced substantial bonus payouts for approximately 1,000 employees, which represents about one-third of its full-time workforce.
GPT-5 is accessible to all users, with Plus subscribers receiving enhanced usage and Pro subscribers gaining access to GPT-5 Pro, a version offering extended reasoning for more comprehensive and accurate responses.
