New Delhi, May 28 (NationPress) The Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) announced on Wednesday that it is advocating for improved quality standards in trade and manufacturing to enhance the global competitiveness of Indian products.
In an interview with IANS at the ‘Bharat Quality Mission’ event, Nidhi Khare, the Secretary of DoCA under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, emphasized the critical role of quality in both exports and the domestic market.
She stated that being globally competitive is crucial across all sectors, whether in trade or commerce.
“Understanding the significance of quality is vital for any sector, be it trade or commerce, and adherence to quality standards is fundamental,” Khare explained to IANS.
To achieve this, maintaining high quality is imperative. “Today’s consumers demand assurance of quality products. This principle applies not only to exports but also to our domestic market,” Khare pointed out.
Considering that a significant portion of India’s manufacturing sector is comprised of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the government is concentrating on closely collaborating with these entities.
“Quality assurance is essential for both exports and the domestic market. Consumers expect high-quality products,” Khare remarked.
“As MSMEs are substantial contributors to our manufacturing landscape, we have initiated direct engagement with them to comprehend their challenges and resolve any grievances,” she added.
Khare also mentioned that the DoCA is actively working with MSMEs to identify and address issues related to quality standards.
“Ultimately, any nation that aims to prosper must ensure the credibility of its goods and services. There can be no leniency or exemptions regarding quality concerns,” she asserted.
The ‘Bharat Quality Mission’ event attracted numerous stakeholders from MSMEs and various industry associations. The objective was to promote awareness about quality assurance and encourage industries to adopt higher standards for enhanced growth and consumer trust.
