Government Introduces Three Applications to Safeguard Consumer Rights

New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) On Tuesday, the Union government launched the Jago Grahak Jago app, Jagriti app, and Jagriti Dashboard to promote the rights of consumers in celebration of National Consumer Day 2024.
This day is dedicated to recognizing the rights and needs of consumers while showcasing the considerable progress made by the department in safeguarding and empowering consumers over the last year.
The applications, introduced by Union Minister of Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi, are designed to shield consumers from dark patterns.
During the launch event at Vigyan Bhawan, the Minister stated, "These applications will provide the Department of Consumer Affairs with the tools and resources needed to identify dark patterns on e-commerce platforms, thereby empowering consumers with these resources."
This year's theme for National Consumer Day is "Virtual Hearings & Digital Access to Consumer Justice," which underscores the commitment to improving consumer welfare through innovative approaches and transparent grievance redressal systems.
"The virtual hearings for grievances are facilitating digital access to justice for consumers, reflecting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's dedication to ensuring efficient and accessible justice for all consumers," the Minister remarked.
Additionally, he introduced the National Legal Metrology e-Mapp, which aims to bolster transparency, efficiency, and accountability in governance and operations, along with the new AI-driven NCH 2.0.
NCH 2.0 includes multilingual support and AI-powered chatbots, providing a seamless and inclusive experience for consumers nationwide.
The Minister also highlighted the accomplishments of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) in recent years, emphasizing its role in protecting consumer interests through class action lawsuits and other initiatives. This includes a refund of Rs 1,454 crores by travel companies to consumers impacted by canceled flight tickets, as well as actions against 45 coaching centers across the country for deceptive advertising, among other measures.
