New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) In a remarkable milestone, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has allocated financial support for education to all qualifying applicants under Labour Welfare Schemes aimed at wards of beedi, cine, and non-coal mine workers.
A total of Rs 32.51 crore has been distributed to 92,118 wards of beedi, cine, and non-coal mine workers who sought scholarships during the academic year 2024-25, as stated in an official announcement made on Friday.
The education segment of the Labour Welfare Scheme is executed through the National Scholarship Portal and is overseen by the Labour Welfare Organisation across 18 regions under the supervision of the Directorate General of Labour Welfare, which is a department of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Under this scheme, financial support of up to Rs 25,000 per student annually is provided to eligible wards for education in schools, colleges, and professional courses. The benefits are directly credited to the beneficiaries' accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) using the Aadhaar Payment Bridge method, ensuring both transparency and efficiency.
This prompt and effective service delivery guarantees that these children receive financial aid when it is most crucial, the statement detailed.
The Labour Ministry has also initiated a National Career Service (NCS), serving as a ‘one-stop platform’ for all career-related resources, including job opportunities from both private and government sectors, details on online and offline job fairs, as well as skill/training programs to assist those seeking employment.
From January 1, 2024, to December 15, 2024, over 1.89 crore vacancies were mobilized on the NCS portal, bringing the total number of vacancies mobilized since its launch to 3.89 crores. This year, the count of active vacancies peaked at 20 lakhs on a single day, with an average of 15 lakh job opportunities accessible on the NCS portal at any given time.
On the NCS portal, 8,263 job fairs were held, involving 43,874 employers, and 2,69,616 candidates were provisionally selected for jobs throughout the year. Regarding stakeholder registrations, 17,23,741 new employers and 1,38,45,887 new job seekers registered on the NCS portal.
The NCS portal has significantly improved its integration and collaboration efforts. It is now linked with 30 state and union territory employment portals, as well as various private job portals, enhancing its database and expanding access to job opportunities.
NCS has also been integrated with the MyBharat platform to offer a more user-friendly experience for youth, institutions, and organizations. Through MyBharat, NCS can organize events, and registered volunteers can take part. Model Career Centres (MCCs) are also connected, allowing Young Professionals to collaborate with volunteers for job fairs and outreach initiatives.
