GSMA Unveils Grants of Up to £200,000 for Green Mobile Innovations in Emerging Markets

New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) has unveiled an Innovation Fund that offers grants ranging from £100,000 to £200,000. This initiative aims to promote the green transition in low- and middle-income nations by providing support to small and emerging enterprises leveraging mobile and digital technologies.
This fund will finance digital initiatives that enhance access to clean energy, promote circular practices, improve digital inclusion, and encourage climate action in regions such as Africa, Central and South America, and South and Southeast Asia, as outlined by the GSMA.
Businesses will be eligible for funding if they can secure at least 25% matching funds. Grants will be distributed over a 15–18 month period, accompanied by technical support.
Additionally, recipients will gain access to investor connections, partnerships with mobile network operators, and assistance in monitoring, evaluation, and visibility through GSMA platforms, according to the statement.
To qualify, applicants must be for-profit small and growing enterprises with a workforce of up to 250 employees that incorporate mobile or digital technology as a fundamental aspect of their operations. They must also demonstrate commercial revenue and a user base.
Applications will be accepted from February until May 2026, with a submission deadline of April 6, 2026.

The fund will back commercially viable innovations aimed at increasing access to clean energy and advancing circularity in mobile devices.
Innovations may include renewable energy solutions, smart metering, refurbishment strategies, and responsible management of electronic waste to support digital inclusion and combat climate change.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, acknowledging the essential role of mobile technology in fostering inclusive and sustainable development, as stated by the association.
