Gandhinagar, March 29 (NationPress) The state of Gujarat is set to enhance availability of cutting-edge computing resources for the realm of artificial intelligence, unveiling a strategy to distribute over 100 high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) throughout the state. This initiative aims to aid startups, educational institutions, and government agencies, as announced by officials on Sunday.

This project, spearheaded by Gujarat Informatics Limited under the auspices of the Science and Technology Department, is a follow-up to the recent "AI Startup Samvad" and aligns with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's vision of technology-focused and citizen-oriented governance.

In line with the Central government’s ‘IndiaAI Mission’, the state is currently operationalising shared AI computing resources, allowing access to over 100 GPUs for tasks such as model training, application development, and implementation of scalable solutions.

The national initiative is designed to democratise access to computing resources, enabling startups, researchers, and public institutions to create local AI solutions through shared infrastructure and datasets.

According to officials, this shared facility will significantly lower both the costs and time involved for organizations seeking high-end computing systems, thereby accelerating the development and deployment of AI applications in both governance and industry.

This announcement builds upon discussions from the "AI Startup Samvad" event held in Gandhinagar, where the Chief Minister engaged directly with around two dozen promising startups from across the nation.

The event was aimed at identifying scalable AI solutions and enhancing Gujarat's stature in emerging technologies.

During this interaction, Chief Minister Patel stated that Gujarat aspires to be a pioneering state in AI adoption, increasing the use of AI to boost transparency in governance and improve services for citizens.

He also highlighted the crucial role of startups in fostering innovation and contributing to sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and education.

In recent years, the state government has undertaken numerous initiatives to cultivate an AI ecosystem, including the establishment of centres of excellence, support for startup-led innovation challenges, and partnerships with industry to develop AI clusters and research facilities.

The newly proposed GPU-backed infrastructure is anticipated to facilitate various activities, including training AI models, creating new applications, and enabling large-scale deployment.

Officials indicated that it would also promote the development of locally relevant AI solutions and expedite their adoption in governance.

The state government noted that this initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to position Gujarat as a national hub for artificial intelligence, innovation, and digital governance, with coordinated support for startups, academia, and industry.
