Guwahati, Dec 18 (NationPress) In a significant move aimed at improving passenger convenience and enhancing station facilities, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has transformed the retiring rooms and dormitory at Guwahati Railway Station, part of the Lumding Division, with state-of-the-art amenities, officials announced on Thursday.
NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated that the new facilities were inaugurated in the presence of NFR’s General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava and other senior railway officials, underscoring NFR's commitment to passenger-focused infrastructure development.
The Retiring Room complex, situated on the first floor of the station building, now provides a markedly improved lodging experience for railway travelers.
According to Sharma, the accommodations feature nine Retiring Rooms, comprising seven two-bedded rooms and two five-bedded rooms, in addition to a 12-bedded dormitory.
As part of the upgrade, all rooms have been converted into fully air-conditioned units, featuring more comfortable beds and enhanced interiors, delivering a modern, hygienic, and convenient space for passengers during their travels.
The CPRO mentioned that this initiative represents a notable enhancement in non-fare revenue for the Railways.
Under the new arrangement, NFR anticipates earning Rs 1.94 crore over the upcoming five-year contract period, with no expenses related to maintenance, operation, or renovations.
This marks a substantial improvement compared to the previous in-house management model, which involved ongoing operational costs and lower net profits.
The upgraded facilities demonstrate NFR’s ongoing dedication to enhancing passenger services through the optimal use of railway assets and sustainable revenue growth, aligning with the broader modernization goals of Indian Railways.
To efficiently facilitate these advancements, the services of the Retiring Rooms and Dormitory have been outsourced through a competitive tender process, assigning responsibilities for renovation, upgrade, management, and maintenance. The contract spans a five-year period.
All renovation work has been executed at no expense to the Railways, with full operational accountability resting with the service provider.
