Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) The ceremonial Halwa event, a time-honored tradition that signifies the concluding phase of the preparations for the Union Budget 2026-27, took place on Tuesday at the Budget Press located in North Block.
This significant ceremony was attended by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.
The Halwa ceremony serves as a crucial ritual that indicates the commencement of the ‘lock-in’ period for the officials who are engaged in the formulation of the Budget.
Following this ceremony, these officials are isolated from external communication to maintain complete secrecy until the Budget is officially presented.
The Union Budget 2026-27 is set to be unveiled in Parliament on February 1.
During the event, the Finance Minister was joined by secretaries from various departments under the Ministry of Finance, along with other senior officials involved in the Budget formulation.
FM Sitharaman also took the opportunity to visit the Budget Press to oversee the final arrangements and extended her best wishes to the entire team working diligently on the Budget.
The government has additionally declared that all Union Budget documents will be accessible in a digital format for public convenience.
This includes vital documents such as the Annual Financial Statement, commonly referred to as the Budget, the Demand for Grants, and the Finance Bill.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, “All Union Budget documents, including the Annual Financial Statement (commonly known as Budget), Demand for Grants (DG), Finance Bill, will also be available on the ‘Union Budget Mobile App’ for hassle-free access by Members of Parliament (MPs) and the general public in a digitally accessible format.”
The Budget documents will be obtainable through the Union Budget Mobile App, which is available in both English and Hindi.
This app can be downloaded on both Android and iOS platforms and is also accessible via the Union Budget website, indiabudget.gov.in.
However, the Budget documents will only be accessible on the mobile app and the website after the Finance Minister delivers her Budget speech in Parliament on February 1.
The ministry reiterated, “The Budget documents will be available on the Mobile App and the website after the completion of the Budget Speech by the Union Finance Minister in Parliament on February 1.”
