There had been some confusion regarding the date, since the traditional presentation day of February 1 falls on a Sunday this year; however, the Lok Sabha Speaker has resolved the uncertainty.
Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju noted that the first segment of the Budget Session, starting on January 28, will wrap up on February 13. The Parliament will reconvene for the second segment on March 9 and continue until April 2.
On the recommendation of the Central Government, President Droupadi Murmu has sanctioned the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session 2026.
On January 29, the Parliament will not convene due to the Beating Retreat ceremony, while both Houses are anticipated to meet on January 30, when the Economic Survey is likely to be presented. Additionally, January 31 will see no meetings as it precedes the Union Budget presentation on February 1.
Following discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address and deliberations on the Budget, the Parliament is expected to recess for almost a month starting February 13, reconvening on March 9 and anticipated to conclude by April 2.
Officials mentioned that although the Parliament typically adjourns on a Friday, this year's budget session may end a day earlier due to Good Friday on April 3.
