Chandigarh, June 17 (NationPress) Haryana has achieved significant progress in the realms of innovation and entrepreneurship, ranking as the seventh largest state in terms of startups, as recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
With more than 8,800 DPIIT-recognized startups, the state showcases a dynamic and expanding startup ecosystem. A particularly promising facet of this growth is the notable representation of women entrepreneurs; over 45 percent of these startups are spearheaded by women. This information was disclosed during a review meeting of the State Startup Ecosystem and Incubator Schemes, chaired by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi on Tuesday.
The significant percentage of women-led startups underscores the state’s commitment to inclusive development and gender equality within the innovation sector. Haryana's contribution to the nation's unicorn narrative is also noteworthy; among India's 117 unicorns, 19 originated from Haryana.
“This highlights the state’s strong business climate, easy access to skilled talent, and increasing investor interest. These elements are positioning Haryana as a vital player in the national economy through innovation-driven growth,” he remarked.
Additionally, the state has developed robust incubation infrastructure to support startups at various stages. Over 25 incubators have been established within government and private universities statewide.
Furthermore, there are more than 10 private sector-run incubators and 10 government-supported incubators currently operational, providing a comprehensive array of services including mentorship, networking opportunities, and infrastructural support.
Several organizations have also shown interest in creating new incubation centers, which will further enhance the support framework for early-stage startups.
“Our vision is to cultivate a self-sustaining ecosystem where innovation flourishes from the grassroots level to a global scale,” stated Rastogi during the meeting.
“By bolstering our incubators, we are not merely funding companies; we are establishing a robust foundation for the emergence of the next generation of global enterprises from Haryana.”
Commissioner and Secretary (Industries and Commerce) Amit Kumar Agrawal mentioned that the government is preparing to unveil a new suite of schemes under the Haryana State Startup Policy of 2022. These initiatives aim to provide extensive financial and infrastructural support to government-owned, government-supported, and private incubators.
The schemes include a capital subsidy covering 50 percent of the capital expenditure, up to Rs 2 crore for government host institutions and Rs 1 crore for private entities.
