Seoul, March 2 (NationPress) Hyundai Motor, the leading automaker from South Korea, reported a 3 percent increase in its sales in the United States for February compared to the previous year, achieving its highest sales for the month ever, as stated by the company on Sunday.

Hyundai Motor's sales in the U.S. reached 62,032 units last month, rising from 60,341 units during the same month last year, according to the automaker.

This number represents the highest sales figure for any February, as highlighted by the company.

The growth was largely fueled by an impressive 194 percent increase in the sales of the Santa Fe hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and a 12 percent uptick in Ioniq 6 EV sales.

Kia Corp., the sister company of Hyundai and the second-largest car manufacturer in South Korea, also achieved a sales record in the U.S. for the month, with sales rising 7.2 percent year-on-year to 63,303 units.

The company credited the sales increase to its diverse lineup of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and strong demand for the newly launched K4 sedan.

Earlier, Hyundai Motor’s total sales for January experienced a 2.3 percent decline from the previous year due to fewer business days. The automaker sold 310,399 vehicles last month, down from 317,823 units sold in January last year.

Domestic sales dropped 7.5 percent year-on-year to 46,054 units, while overseas sales fell 1.4 percent to 264,345 units.

Hyundai Motor attributed the decline in sales to the reduced number of business days caused by last month's extended Lunar New Year holiday, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

Domestically, the best-selling model was the Grandeur sedan, which sold 5,711 units, while the Santa Fe was the top-selling SUV in the local market, with 4,819 units sold.

Kia also noted a 2.4 percent decrease in its January sales due to the fewer working days during the Lunar New Year holiday.
