IDFC First Bank Q2 FY27 PAT falls 8.6% to ₹1,049 crore sequentially
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
IDFC First Bank on Saturday, 24 October 2026 reported a ₹1,049.17 crore consolidated net profit for Q2 FY27, marking an 8.59% sequential decline from ₹1,147.82 crore in Q1 FY27. On a year-on-year basis, however, net profit rose multi-fold, reflecting the bank's longer-term earnings trajectory even as near-term pressure from higher provisions weighed on the quarter.
Net Interest Income and Loan Growth
The bank's net interest income (NII) climbed to ₹6,188 crore in Q2 FY27, up 3.59% quarter-on-quarter from ₹5,974 crore in Q1 FY27, and a robust 21.04% higher than ₹5,112.81 crore recorded in Q2 FY26. This income expansion signals that the bank's core lending franchise continues to scale despite the profit dip. Loans and advances, including credit substitutes and FCNR(B)-backed loans, surged 30.1% year-on-year to ₹3,46,913 crore.
Asset Quality Improves Sequentially
Gross non-performing assets (NPA) improved to 1.32% in Q2 FY27 from 1.51% in Q1 FY27, while net NPA narrowed to 0.40% from 0.44% in the preceding quarter. Provisions also eased to ₹1,137 crore during the quarter from ₹1,452 crore in Q2 FY26, suggesting improving credit quality across the book. These figures are notable at a time when several mid-size lenders are grappling with stress in unsecured retail segments.
Deposits Surge; CASA Ratio Dips
Total deposits rose 25.9% year-on-year and 11.8% quarter-on-quarter to ₹3,48,583 crore, demonstrating continued momentum in liability mobilisation. The CASA ratio stood at 48.4% in Q2 FY27, down from 50.1% in the prior quarter. The bank attributed the dip primarily to a large mobilisation of FCNR(B) deposits during the period, which are classified outside the CASA basket.
What the Management Said
V. Vaidyanathan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IDFC First Bank, said: 'Opex growth lagged income growth by 500 bps for two quarters, cost-to-income continues to fall and ROA is near 1 per cent. Raising over ₹34,000 crore FCNR(B) deposits gives us 3-5 year liquidity at 1 per cent lower cost than domestic deposits.'
The remark highlights the bank's deliberate strategy to lock in longer-duration, lower-cost foreign-currency liquidity — a structural hedge against domestic rate volatility. This is the second consecutive quarter in which opex growth has trailed income growth, a trend analysts are watching as an indicator of operating leverage building within the franchise.
Stock Performance
Shares of IDFC First Bank closed at ₹72.35 on the BSE on Friday, down 3.47%. The stock has touched a 52-week high of ₹89.58 and a 52-week low of ₹58.08, according to exchange data. With the Q2 results now public, investor attention will turn to management commentary on credit costs and CASA trajectory in the second half of FY27.
