Mumbai, May 3 (NationPress) The government has officially inaugurated the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT), a national hub of excellence solely focused on the animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR) sectors.
This significant move aims to enhance India’s AVGC-XR landscape, as the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in association with FICCI and CII, introduced IICT at the ‘WAVES 2025’ summit.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighted India’s potential to emerge as a global frontrunner in media and entertainment, asserting that IICT is set to become a leading institution in its domain, akin to the IITs and IIMs in technology and management education.
The minister disclosed that IICT will adopt a similar framework to the IITs and IIMs in India, positioning itself as a substantial world-class educational and training center for those aiming for careers in the AVGC-XR field.
“We have initiated a groundbreaking venture in the realm of film and entertainment. This initiative aligns with our Prime Minister’s vision for India to lead globally in the media and entertainment industry,” the minister remarked.
Vaishnaw expressed gratitude towards industry partners who have shown interest in collaboration, announcing that prominent global firms have agreed to support IICT in curriculum design, internships, scholarships, startup funding, and job placements.
“I appreciate all the industry partners and their top executives with whom I have engaged, for their readiness to collaborate on this initiative. They will assist us in developing this institution and ensuring sustained long-term growth. I aspire for IICT to evolve into a substantial educational infrastructure for the AVGC-XR sector,” he stated.
“We will employ the same model we have established for the IITs and IIMs to transform it into a world-class institution,” he added.
Among the companies that have committed to long-term partnerships are Adobe, Google, YouTube, Meta, Wacom, Microsoft, and NVIDIA.
