Data from IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker showed that both detachable and slate tablets played a significant role in this growth, rising by 30 percent and 47.2 percent YoY, respectively.
The consumer segment remained robust, showing a 19.2 percent YoY growth, primarily driven by appealing online promotions, discounts, and cashback offers.
Even though over 60 percent of shipments were entry-level tablets, the average selling price (ASP) rose from $309 in FY2023 to $336 in FY2024 within the consumer segment.
The commercial segment outperformed expectations, with a remarkable 69.7 percent YoY increase, largely influenced by an impressive 104.5 percent YoY boost in tablet demand from educational institutions, as noted in the report.
Government-funded educational initiatives were a key factor in this growth, even as the very large business (VLB) segment faced a 9.9 percent YoY decline.
“With Android tablets featuring enhanced cameras, software updates, and better app integration, they are becoming the preferred choice for light productivity and entertainment, appealing to a specific segment of PC buyers,” stated Priyansh Tiwari, research analyst at IDC India and South Asia.
Samsung led the Indian tablet market in 2024, securing a 42.6 percent overall market share, according to the report. The company dominated both commercial and consumer segments, with shares of 51.1 percent and 32.1 percent, respectively.
