Indian Seafarers in West Asia Remain Safe, Repatriation Efforts Continue

New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) The government has confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the West Asia and Gulf region are currently safe, with no incidents reported involving Indian-flagged vessels within the last 24 hours. DG Shipping has successfully facilitated the repatriation of over 2,487 Indian seafarers, including 34 individuals in the last day from various Gulf locations.
According to an official statement, "Port operations throughout India are functioning normally with no congestion at this time." Measures have been implemented by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to protect Indian vessels and their crews in the region.
The Ministry is actively collaborating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Missions, and maritime stakeholders to ensure the welfare of seafarers and the continuity of maritime operations,” the statement noted.
Furthermore, the Ministry of External Affairs is continuously monitoring the situation in the Gulf and West Asia, focusing on the safety and well-being of the Indian community in the area.
“Regular updates are being provided, which include details on local government guidelines, travel and flight conditions, consular services, and welfare initiatives to assist our community. Indian Missions are engaged with various associations, organizations, professional groups, and Indian companies in the region,” it added.
Flights remain operational from countries where airspace is open. Since February 28, approximately 1,068,000 passengers have traveled from the region to India.
In the UAE, airlines are continuing to operate a limited number of non-scheduled commercial flights to India based on operational and safety considerations, with around 110 flights expected today.
Flights are also running from multiple airports in Saudi Arabia and Oman to various destinations in India.
“The Embassy of India in Tehran has successfully facilitated the movement of 2,373 Indian nationals from Iran to Armenia and Azerbaijan for further travel to India, which includes 1,041 Indian students and 657 Indian fishermen,” the ministry stated.
