The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, via the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), has successfully overseen the safe return of over 2,084 Indian seafarers to date, including 75 individuals in the last 24 hours from various Gulf locations.
“Port operations throughout India are functioning normally, with no congestion reported. The Ministry is actively collaborating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Missions, and maritime stakeholders to uphold the welfare of seafarers and ensure uninterrupted maritime operations,” stated an official release.
The Shipping Control Room remains operational around the clock, having managed 6,053 calls and more than 12,787 emails since its activation. In just the past 24 hours, it received 80 calls and 112 emails.
Throughout the region, Indian Missions and Posts are maintaining close communication with the Indian community, while continuously providing support and issuing essential advisories for their safety and welfare.
The Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the ongoing developments in the Gulf and West Asia region.
“Indian Missions and Posts are operating 24/7 helplines and are proactively assisting Indian nationals. Updated advisories are regularly issued, which includes information on local government guidelines, flight statuses, and consular services,” the ministry elaborated.
“Our Missions are actively engaging with Indian community organizations, professional groups, Indian companies, and other stakeholders in the region,” the ministry added.
Flights continue to operate from regions where airspace is accessible. Since February 28, approximately 897,000 passengers have traveled from the Gulf region back to India.
In the UAE, airlines are continuing to conduct limited non-scheduled commercial flights to India based on operational and safety assessments, with around 95 flights anticipated today.
Flights are also ongoing from various airports in Saudi Arabia and Oman to destinations in India. With Qatar's airspace partially reopened, Qatar Airways is expected to run approximately 8–10 flights to India today.
“Iran's airspace remains closed. We are facilitating the travel of Indian nationals from Iran via Armenia and Azerbaijan to India,” stated the ministry. Travel for Indian nationals continues to be coordinated through Jordan and Egypt to reach India.
