New Delhi, Nov 8 (NationPress) The Indian smartphone market is anticipated to experience moderate growth in 2025, with shipments increasing in single digits, as per a recent report. The market is expected to maintain its momentum, fueled by 5G upgrades, a trend towards premiumisation, and the increasing consumer appetite for connected device ecosystems.
As noted by CyberMedia Research (CMR), India's smartphone market witnessed a 7 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth, bolstered by festive enthusiasm, faster 5G adoption, and a robust push towards premium devices primarily from brands such as Apple, Vivo, and Motorola.
In Q3 2025, Apple led India’s smartphone market in value with a 30 percent market share, followed closely by Samsung at 22 percent, together comprising a significant portion of the market. Vivo took the lead in the 5G smartphone segment with an 18 percent market share, while Samsung trailed at 16 percent.
“The continuous festive and year-end sales are expected to further boost shipments, with the premium and ultra-premium segments acting as vital growth drivers, spearheaded by flagship models from Apple, Samsung, and OnePlus,” stated Pankaj Jadli, Analyst – Industry Intelligence Group at CMR.
In the latest quarter, 5G smartphones accounted for 89 percent of total shipments, reflecting a 16 percent YoY increase. Notably, the demand for 5G smartphones in the Rs 6,000–Rs 10,000 price range skyrocketed by over 1,600 percent YoY, signifying a strong shift towards affordable 5G options.
The democratization of 5G connectivity, particularly in the sub-Rs 10,000 category, is transforming consumer upgrade patterns and is poised to guide the next phase of smartphone growth in India.
“The festive season, combined with aggressive promotional strategies and accessible EMI plans, has driven consumer upgrades, reshaping India’s value-for-money and affordable 5G smartphone segment. While premium smartphones have continued to show double-digit growth, the feature phone segment has seen a decline as consumers progressively shift towards smartphones,” noted Menka Kumari, Senior Analyst – Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR.
In Q3 2025, the 2G feature phone market saw a 14 percent YoY decline, while 4G feature phones experienced a significant 24 percent YoY drop, according to the report.
