Palakkad, Nov 8 (NationPress) A polling booth located in Kerala's secluded Attappadi tribal region has made history by being the first in the state to finalize the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of its electoral roll in just one day, successfully registering all of its 65 voters.

The commendable initiative at the Singampara Muthikulam tribal settlement in Palakkad’s Attappadi block was carried out by a devoted team of officials and students, including six young women from the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government Arts and Science College. This group traveled over 120 km to fulfill this task.

Singampara Muthikulam Booth Level Officer (BLO) Kunjumon Thomas confirmed the successful execution of the process.

"We have completed the electoral roll revision for all 65 voters from 36 households in the settlement without any complications. The community cooperated seamlessly with the SIR process. Historically, the voters in this tribal area actively engage in elections," stated Thomas, who also serves as a teacher in a local school.

The team worked tirelessly from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, patiently awaiting the return of voters from their daily activities. This effort was part of a broader initiative by the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Rathan U Kelkar, aimed at increasing tribal voter participation in the SIR drive.

The CEO had personally reached out to the community, sending a letter on November 3 to the head (mooppan) of each Adivasi Unnathi (tribal settlement) in the expansive Attappadi block, urging full participation in the SIR process.

A team led by Palakkad Election Deputy Collector N Sajid delivered and explained the CEO’s letter to the settlement head, who then shared it with community members.

S Anandhu, a final year BA student and coordinator of the ELC at RGM College, shared the club’s long-term aspiration.

"Our goal is to achieve 100% voter participation across all polling booths in the Attappadi tribal block in future elections," remarked Anandhu, who has been actively involved with the ELC in the tribal region for over five years, starting from the school level.

District Master Trainer T Sathyan mentioned their objective to complete the SIR across Attappadi by the deadline of December 4.

Kerala's local body elections are set to take place in December this year, with assembly polls projected for April 2026.
