New Delhi, Nov 29 (NationPress) As the globe transitions into the next era of universal and meaningful connectivity, India's proactive initiatives are set to continue molding a comprehensive, resilient, and sustainable digital future, the government has stated. India's leadership, technical contributions, and constructive diplomacy have significantly strengthened its role as a vital player in global digital advancement.
This message was delivered at the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25), the premier conference of the ITU’s Development Sector (ITU-D), in Baku, Azerbaijan, by Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, the Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development.
The minister presented India’s high-level policy statement at this global platform, highlighting India's priorities regarding universal connectivity, sustainable digital transformation, and the role of emerging technologies in fostering inclusive development.
“India is a valuable partner in ITU by being a council member since 1952,” remarked Doreen Bogdan-Martin, ITU SG.
India's proactive engagement was instrumental in the successful endorsement of 19 APT Common Proposals during the conference, where India played a leading or supportive role.
The Indian delegation conducted 11 bilateral meetings at the Ministerial level and engaged with over 50 countries on shared interests.
The nation also officially nominated M. Revathi as the Indian candidate for the position of Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau (BR) of the ITU, as stated by the ministry.
In addition, indigenous C-DOT solutions and technologies were showcased at a dedicated exhibition stall, attracting significant interest from participating nations.
India actively engaged in the Heads of Delegation meetings, contributing to consensus-building and ensuring the successful and effective operation of the conference.
India made substantial contributions to several key resolutions adopted at WTDC-25. Under Digital Transformation and Innovation, India was pivotal in advancing Resolution 85, which encourages the growth of Smart Sustainable Cities and Communities (SSC&C) to encompass smart villages, thereby benefitting rural and remote populations.
India also played a significant role in resolutions concerning policy, regulation, networks, and spectrum.
Held every four years, this conference outlines the strategic direction and work program for global telecommunications growth. WTDC-25 saw the participation of around 2,300 delegates, including more than 65 ministers and heads of agencies from around the world.
