India's Domestic Air Passenger Traffic Anticipated to Grow by 6.1% to 144.9 Lakh in November

New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) The domestic air passenger traffic in India is projected to achieve a 6.1 per cent increase, reaching 144.9 lakh in November, which is a rise from 136.6 lakh in October, according to a report published on Tuesday.

Furthermore, November recorded a year-on-year growth of 13.8 per cent compared to 127.4 lakh in November 2023 and is also 11.9 per cent higher than pre-Covid figures of 129.5 lakh in November 2019, based on estimates from credit rating agency ICRA.

During the first eight months of this fiscal year (April-November), domestic air passenger traffic totaled 1074.9 lakh, reflecting a YoY growth of 6.7 per cent and being 12.3 per cent above the pre-Covid level of 957 lakh from the same period in FY2020.

Moreover, in the first seven months of the current fiscal year (FY25), international passenger traffic for Indian carriers reached 190.3 lakh, showing a YoY growth of 15.9 per cent, significantly surpassing the pre-Covid level of 131 lakh by 45.4 per cent, as noted in the report.

The capacity deployment of airlines in November 2024 was greater than that of November 2023 by 8.6 per cent, according to the findings.

It is estimated that the domestic aviation sector operated at a passenger load factor (PLF) of 90.4 per cent in November 2024, compared to 86.3 per cent in November 2023 and 89.5 per cent in November 2019 (pre-Covid).

From April to July this year, the prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) saw increases of 3.1 per cent, 6.4 per cent, 6.7 per cent, and 4.9 per cent, respectively, year-on-year.

Conversely, from August to December, prices decreased on a YoY basis by 2.2 per cent, 17.8 per cent, 26.5 per cent, 19.6 per cent, and 14.5 per cent, the report stated.
