India's Equity Fund Inflows Rise Exceeding 14% to Rs 41,156 Crore in December

New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) The inflows into actively managed equity mutual funds experienced an impressive monthly increase of over 14 percent, reaching Rs 41,155.9 crore in December, as indicated by the data released by the Association of Mutual Funds of India (AMFI) on Thursday.

This surge in equity mutual fund inflows was predominantly driven by heightened investments in thematic/sectoral and small-cap funds.

Specifically, net inflows for small-cap funds amounted to Rs 4,667.7 crore in December, a rise from Rs 4,111.8 crore in the preceding month.

The mid-cap segment also witnessed an inflow of Rs 5,093.2 crore in December, an improvement from Rs 4,883.4 crore in the previous month, according to AMFI data.

Investments in the sectoral and thematic categories increased to Rs 15,331.5 crore.

In addition, flexi-cap funds attracted inflows of Rs 4,730.7 crore, while multi-cap funds recorded Rs 5,084.1 crore in inflows.

New fund offers contributed to an inflow of Rs 13,643 crore in the last month. The passive fund category led the way with the highest number of new fund offerings (NFOs), which generated Rs 4,052 crore in total inflows for the industry.

Over the past decade, the Indian mutual fund industry has seen significant growth in its assets under management (AUM), which surged by an astounding 524 percent to Rs 68.08 lakh crore in November 2024, up from Rs 10.9 lakh crore in November 2014.

The growth in AUM in B-30 (Beyond 30 cities) outpaced that of the top-30 cities during this timeframe. Additionally, the mutual fund industry's AUM has expanded by over Rs 37 lakh crore in the last four years.

AUM climbed by Rs 11 lakh crore in 2023, Rs 2.65 lakh crore in 2022, and approximately Rs 7 lakh crore in 2021.

As per AMFI data, around 174 open-ended schemes were introduced in 2024 (up to November). Furthermore, 19.42 lakh folios were added to hybrid mutual funds in 2024, along with 1.87 lakh folios added to solution-oriented mutual funds.
