New Delhi, April 11 (NationPress) Smartphones have officially become India’s largest export product, surpassing a remarkable Rs 2,00,000 crore in FY25, reflecting an astonishing 55% annual growth, according to the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) on Friday.

India's total mobile phone production is projected to have reached Rs 5,25,000 crore in FY25, marking a significant increase from Rs 4,22,000 crore in the previous fiscal year, showcasing an unparalleled success of the 'Make in India' initiative.

“This indicates the increasing strength and maturity of India’s electronics sector. The production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme has been instrumental in this transformation. It has facilitated scaling, attracted major global investments, and positioned India as a competitive and dependable manufacturing hub for the globe,” stated Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA.

The remarkable rise in exports is primarily driven by the strategic execution of the PLI scheme, which has elevated India to one of the fastest-growing mobile manufacturing centers worldwide.

The scheme has drawn considerable global investments, boosting India’s competitiveness, scale, and integration into Global Value Chains (GVCs).

Leading global firms like Apple and Samsung are at the forefront of this export momentum, having significantly expanded their manufacturing operations in India.

“Our top priority is to foster growth in mobile phone manufacturing, promote export-led advancement, enhance competitiveness, explore new markets, and tackle existing cost and operational challenges,” Mohindroo stated.

With mobile phone production reaching an impressive Rs. 5,25,000 crore annually, this momentum is crucial for developing capacities and capabilities in the domestic component ecosystem.

“We must intensify our efforts to establish a sustainable, long-term ecosystem that can secure India’s leadership in the global electronics value chain,” he added.

The recent changes in global trade dynamics, especially the reciprocal tariffs introduced by US President Donald Trump, have created strategic opportunities for Indian electronics in the US market.

“Our aim is to establish India as the primary manufacturing partner and preferred supplier for all significant global markets. The world should recognize India as a natural and strategic option for electronics manufacturing,” Mohindroo concluded.
