New Delhi, April 21 (NationPress) The sales of Khadi and Village Industries have surged dramatically from Rs 31,154.19 crore in 2013-14 to an unprecedented Rs 1,70,551.37 crore in the financial year 2024-25, according to Manoj Kumar, Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

Additionally, he noted that while the production of goods within the Khadi and Village Industry was Rs 26,109.07 crore in 2013-14, it rose nearly fourfold to Rs 116,599.75 crore in the financial year 2024-25.

In his press conference, he emphasized that the growth in the production of Khadi clothing over the past 11 years has been remarkable. The output of Khadi garments, which stood at Rs 811.08 crore in 2013-14, increased significantly to Rs 3,783.36 crore in 2024-25, marking a rise of 366 percent and achieving the best performance to date.

Sales of Khadi apparel also saw a substantial increase. From Rs 1,081.04 crore in 2013-14, sales skyrocketed to Rs 7,145.61 crore in 2024-25, a rise of approximately six and a half times, he highlighted.

He attributed this remarkable growth in Khadi clothing sales to the promotion efforts led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Regarding the objectives of KVIC, he stated that a primary aim is to generate maximum employment opportunities in rural areas.

In this regard, KVIC has set new records over the last 11 years. The cumulative employment figure rose from 1.3 crore in 2013-14 to 1.94 crore in 2024-25, reflecting an increase of 49.23 percent.

Furthermore, the business volume of Khadi and Village Industries Bhawan in New Delhi witnessed an exceptional growth. It grew from Rs 51.02 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 110.01 crore in 2024-25, an impressive increase of 115 percent, Kumar noted.

He also mentioned that since the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme, a total of 10,181.85 units have been established, with the government providing a margin money subsidy of Rs 27,166.07 crore against a loan of Rs 73,348.39 crore. To date, 90,04,541 individuals have found employment through PMEGP.

To further promote rural employment under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana Scheme, KVIC has increased the budget from Rs 25.65 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 60 crore in 2025-26.

Under this scheme, a variety of equipment has been distributed, including 39,244 electric pottery wheels, 2,270,49 bee boxes and honey colonies, 2,344 incense stick manufacturing machines, 7,735 footwear manufacturing toolkits, 964 paper plate manufacturing machines, and 4,555 wooden toy making machines.

He stated that over the last three fiscal years, 22,284 machines were distributed in 2022-23, 29,854 in 2023-24, and the highest number of 37,218 machines in 2024-25.

KVIC has played a vital role in fostering a self-reliant India by distributing a total of 2,877,52 machines, toolkits, and equipment under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana.

On the subject of women empowerment, he noted that in the past decade, 7,43,904 trainees have received training through 18 departmental and 17 non-departmental training centers of KVIC, with women comprising 57.45 percent (or 4,27,394) of the trainees. Moreover, 80 percent of the five lakh Khadi artisans are women.

In addition, he noted that over the past 11 years, the wages of Khadi artisans have risen by 275 percent, with a 100 percent increase in the last three years alone.
