Seoul, March 4 (NationPress) Song Ho-sung, the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Kia, conveyed optimism on Tuesday regarding the transformation of rising global trade and business uncertainties into opportunities for the South Korean automaker's growth.
In a letter to shareholders featured on Kia's website, Song evaluated that the globalization trend witnessed over the last fifty years is now "transitioning towards regionalism and nationalism," reshaping the dynamics of international trade.
He pointed out that growing regulatory hurdles, including emissions and fuel efficiency standards, are accelerating the industry’s shift towards eco-friendly vehicles, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
While acknowledging that these changes pose risks not only to Kia but also to the overall automotive industry, he highlighted that they offer opportunities for market players who are ready.
"During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the entire automotive sector faced supply chain disruptions, Kia adapted by introducing a diverse vehicle lineup, a flexible global production network, and quick adjustments to supply chains, successfully turning the crisis into an opportunity to enhance our global market presence," he stated.
He emphasized that geopolitical changes and regulatory challenges will create opportunities for Kia to solidify its market position through competitive eco-friendly models and an agile business and production framework.
In the meantime, Kia revealed its new electric vehicle (EV) models and future electrification strategy at an event in Spain.
Kia showcased three significant models — the Kia EV4, Kia PV5, and Kia Concept EV2 sport utility vehicle (SUV) — displaying its latest electric technology and design innovations during the 2025 Kia EV Day held in Tarragona on Monday, according to a company press release.
The EV4 is Kia's inaugural electric sedan, the PV5 marks its first purpose-built vehicle (PBV) using Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated PBV platform named E-GMP.S, and the Concept EV2 is a compact addition to its expanding dedicated EV lineup.
Kia aims to launch the EV4 in global markets following the initial introduction of its hatchback version in Europe this year.
