LG Electronics Partners with Ambarella for Advanced In-Cabin Sensing Solutions

Seoul, Dec 5 (NationPress) LG Electronics has revealed on Thursday that it is collaborating with Ambarella, a US artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor design firm, to unveil a sophisticated in-cabin sensing solution that incorporates technologies for driver and vehicle interior space detection.
The driver monitoring system (DMS) from LG Electronics will be integrated with Ambarella's Edge AI System on Chip (SoC), which is expected to enhance design efficiency and cut costs, as stated by the South Korean company.
Ambarella's Edge AI SoC facilitates real-time data processing on local devices, merging essential functions such as sensing and computation, as per reports from Yonhap news agency.
LG Electronics plans to provide its high-performance DMS solution to global automotive manufacturers, utilizing Ambarella's advanced image processing technology.
The DMS solution employs cameras to meticulously monitor and evaluate the driver's gaze and head movements, identifying any unusual behaviors to avert potential accidents. Upon detection, the system alerts the driver, passengers, and pedestrians with an alarm.
According to LG Electronics, the partnership with Ambarella is founded on their mutual commitment to safety technology, and they will persist in their collaboration to deliver in-cabin sensing solutions that align with elevated safety assessment standards, such as the New Car Assessment Programme.
In its recent reports, LG Electronics estimated that its operating profit for the third quarter dropped by 20.9% compared to the previous year, falling short of market expectations due to rising logistics and marketing expenses. The operating profit was recorded at 751.1 billion won ($556.9 million) for the July-September period, a decline from 905.1 billion won the previous year, as disclosed by the electronics giant in a regulatory filing.
The South Korean home appliance leader has been actively working to diversify its business portfolio and evolve into a forward-looking company after exiting the smartphone sector in 2021.
