LG Energy Solution Partners with Qualcomm to Enhance Chip-Based Battery Management Solutions

Seoul, Dec 23 (NationPress) LG Energy Solution Ltd (LGES), recognized as South Korea's premier battery producer, confirmed on Monday that it has finalized a partnership with Qualcomm Technologies to jointly expedite the commercialization of system-on-chip-based battery management system (SoC-based BMS) diagnostic solutions.
As per the terms of the agreement, LGES will integrate its advanced BMS software into the Snapdragon Digital Chassis provided by Qualcomm. This software will also connect with the Snapdragon Car-to-Cloud Connected Services Platform, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
This collaboration builds upon the pre-existing relationship between the companies, which earlier this year announced intentions to create a next-generation BMS diagnostic solution aimed at electric vehicles and established a technical consortium to enhance their research efforts, according to LGES.
"Through the exchange and validation of technology, we have showcased the superiority of our BMS technology through collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies. We are now officially commencing the path toward commercialization," stated an LGES representative.
LGES possesses over 8,000 patents concerning BMS technology, boasting a safety diagnostic detection rate exceeding 90 percent and an industry-leading degradation diagnostic error rate of approximately 1 percent.
Additionally, LGES's US division has entered into a multi-year agreement to provide energy storage systems (ESS) to a domestic renewable energy infrastructure investor.
LG Energy Solution Vertech. will deliver 7.5-gigawatt-hour (GWh) ESS units to Excelsior Energy Capital LP over several years commencing in 2026, as reported by the company, which did not disclose the specific timeline or value of the deal.
The ESS units will be manufactured at LGES's facilities in the US, with the initial delivery scheduled for April 2026.
This US agreement follows a previous contract signed last month to supply 8 GWh of ESS to local renewable energy company Terra-Gen Power Holdings II, LLC for a four-year period extending through 2029. LGES anticipates that these recent contracts will position its US division to secure additional ESS agreements in the substantial market.
