New Delhi, Sep 6 (NationPress) In a move to align with other automotive manufacturers, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) has declared an immediate price reduction across its ICE SUV lineup, passing on the full benefits of GST 2.0 to consumers, with discounts reaching up to Rs 1.56 lakh.

According to the company, popular models such as Thar, Scorpio, Bolero, XUV700, and Scorpio-N are now available at significant savings, ranging from Rs 1.01 lakh to Rs 1.56 lakh.

The Bolero and Bolero Neo are now priced lower by up to Rs 1.27 lakh, while the XUV3XO Petrol offers a discount of Rs 1.40 lakh, with the XUV3XO Diesel leading the charge with a reduction of Rs 1.56 lakh.

Additionally, the Scorpio-N sees savings of up to Rs 1.45 lakh, the Thar Roxx offers Rs 1.33 lakh in discounts, and the flagship XUV700 has a price reduction of Rs 1.43 lakh.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has also announced that it will fully transfer the recent GST rate reductions to its customers across its vehicle range, with discounts varying from Rs 48,700 for the Rumion up to Rs 3.49 lakh for the Fortuner.

“We are grateful to the Government of India for this landmark reform. It not only makes vehicles more affordable for consumers but also boosts overall confidence in the automotive sector. As we approach the festive season, we anticipate this initiative will create strong momentum and further stimulate demand,” stated Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President of Sales-Service-Used Car Business and Profit Enhancement.

Price reductions for other models include Toyota Glanza at up to Rs 85,300, Taisor at up to Rs 1,11,100, Hyryder at up to Rs 65,400, and Fortuner at up to Rs 3,49,000.

Renault India also revealed substantial price cuts for its models, with reductions for the Kwid, Triber, and Kiger reaching up to Rs 96,395.

Under the newly implemented GST 2.0 framework, all internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles are now taxed at either 18 percent or 40 percent.

Smaller cars, including hatchbacks, compact sedans, and compact SUVs, fall into the 18 percent tax bracket, while mid-size, larger, and luxury vehicles are subjected to 40 percent. Previously, ICE vehicles faced a tax rate of 28 percent GST alongside an additional compensation cess ranging from 1 percent to 22 percent, depending on size and engine capacity.

The GST rate for electric vehicles remains steady at 5 percent, while hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) have seen a reduction from 12 percent to 5 percent.

Point of View

It’s crucial to recognize the significant impact of these price reductions on consumer behavior and the auto industry at large. By passing on GST 2.0 benefits, both Mahindra and Toyota not only enhance vehicle affordability but also foster a renewed sense of confidence in the market. As we move into the festive season, this strategic approach is likely to drive demand and encourage competition, benefiting consumers across the nation.
